Story

The story revolves around Shankar Gurukkal (Dhanush), who is the president of DUSU (Delhi University Students’ Union) and is known in college for his violent and dominating nature. Mukti (Kriti Sanon) is a research scholar who wants to prove that even a violent person can change. She chooses Shankar as the subject of her thesis.

At first, Shankar refuses, but gradually he starts falling in love with Mukti and begins to change his behaviour. Mukti completes her PhD, but Shankar realizes that his love never received the place it deserved. Then begins the story set seven years later… and this is the part that makes the film emotional and intense.

Acting

Dhanush is the biggest strength of this film. His expressions, the pain in his eyes, and his anger — everything leaves an impact in every frame. Kriti has performed her role honestly, though at several moments her presence feels slightly overshadowed by Dhanush’s powerful performance. But the biggest surprise package is Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. His role is small, yet deeply touching. The moment his character appears, he adds a new soul and colour to the film. There is one scene between Zeeshan and Dhanush that directly hits the heart. Their pairing reminds you of “Raanjhanaa”—the understanding between them, the grip on dialogue delivery, and the emotional depth elevate the film to another level.Prakash Raj also strengthens the film with his excellent portrayal of Dhanush’s mentor-like role. His screen time is small, but impactful.

Music

When it comes to music and the name A. R. Rahman appears, expectations automatically rise. The music in the film matches the tone of the story, but the songs don’t stay with you for long. The background score, however, is good and adds depth to the emotional scenes.

Watch it or skip it?

If you enjoy love stories filled with passion, heartfelt emotions, and raw, real characters, then “Tere Ishq Mein” is definitely worth watching. The film does have its flaws, but Dhanush’s performance makes the story compelling. In every scene, he expresses feelings through his eyes and body language in a way that cannot be said in words—only felt.If you were a fan of the earlier film “Raanjhanaa,” you might relive that same emotion here. Especially when Zeeshan Ayyub and Dhanush share the screen — their chemistry, dialogues, and friendship transport you back to the lanes of Banaras. Their presence may be brief, but they become the soul of the film.
